I SUCK AT TOPSTITCHING! || How I Use Guided Feet For Top Stitching
#howtosew #topstitching #sewingmachine
I've been sewing for over 30 years and still can't sew a straight line. Thanks goodness I don't care about perfection. And thank goodness sewing tools can provide a work around. Let's talk about guided feet!
Today we talked about these sewing machine feet. Unfortunately I could not find the exact ones that came with my Janome machine. If you want those ones, I suggest checking out a sewing machine dealer near you. But I did find the other feet and have linked them below. These are affiliate links and I may be entitled to a small commission at no extra cost to you if you use them.

I've had some comments on social media lately about how expensive it can be to sew your own wardrobe. And it can be. But it doesn't have to be. We have to look at the big picture. If you are sewing a quality garment that will last for years longer than a cheap ready to wear garment, well then even if you spent a little more on fabric in the long run that garment was less expensive. I am so glad I found this video!! I made a tote bag today but decided I wanted to try to make one with a zipper and your video was so helpful! When I attempt this tomorrow should do the straps before the zipper?

    • @StephanieRubletz
      @StephanieRubletz 5 дней назад

      I'm not sure if it would matter if you are putting your zipper at the same height on the bag as the straps. Then you might as well do them together. But if you are setting the zipper inside the bag a bit, I would do the straps first. Happy sewing!

    Sometimes I like to ask a quick question but these methods will work if you're just repairing a zipper on say a cosplay bodysuit

    • @StephanieRubletz
      @StephanieRubletz 9 дней назад

      Yes they should. Obviously without seeing the project I can't tell if there is anything you might need to do differently. But in general this should work for pretty much any garment other than a zipper fly in pants

    • @MiyaStarOfficial
      @MiyaStarOfficial 9 дней назад

      @@StephanieRubletz It's a full body spider man cosplay suit with a damaged zipper. If you feel confident this will work then I should be fine as most of the zipper is intact. It's a small section my roommate accidentally ripped last time she was zipping me up

    • @StephanieRubletz
      @StephanieRubletz 9 дней назад

      @@MiyaStarOfficial oh for sure, if you are repairing one section that should be fairly straight forward. But if the main fabric has stretch, just be careful about stretching the main fabric against the non stretch zip. If that happens, it could pucker funny. Good luck!

    Stephanie, I’m trying to hem roll a light weight knit. The problem is that the fabric is getting caught in the feed (bottom plate), such that the fabric bunches and won’t move. Do you have any recommendations to prevent this?

    • @StephanieRubletz
      @StephanieRubletz 15 дней назад

      Ooh, I hate to say it friend but you picked about the hardest thing to roll. You could try to stabilize it with starch and lighten the pressure on the foot. But that's just a best guess. Whenever I hem a knit I either use my serger or I manually fold my hem back and go over it with a double needle and a straight stitch.

    • @lindsaybrigham4671
      @lindsaybrigham4671 14 дней назад

    For the person who had trouble keeping the rolled hem a consistent width - Ms Rubletz showed how to prevent it from getting progressively smaller, but if the hem gets progressively BIGGER, the woman at the "Bridal Sewing" channel said to keep some tension behind the foot and very light tension as you feed the fabric through the foot from the front, all as Ms Rubletz showed. _But ALSO keep tension pulling away at the LEFT SIDE of the foot. That prevents the hem from getting progressively wider._ It works very well to aide in consistency. All the best.
